SBDC wins award

Congratulations to West Central SBDC

The West Central SBDC was recently awarded the 2025 SBDC Center for Excellence and Innovation award from the Minnesota District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration. West Central was recognized during the SBA awards ceremony at the second annual St. Paul Chamber Small Business Expo, held during National Small Business Week. The West Central SBDC was recognized by their fellow SBDC peers throughout Minnesota for their innovation around the use of artificial intelligence and success serving entrepreneurs throughout Minnesota.

Guide to Starting a Business in Minnesota

DEED’s Small Business Assistance Office has published the 43rd edition of its comprehensive Guide to Starting a Business in Minnesota. The Guide is available in a digital format on the DEED website and has the same content and format as the hard copy. The Guide contains a concise summary discussion of major issues, questions and concerns that are most commonly raised by those starting a business.

Emerging Entrepreneur Board Openings

The Minnesota Emerging Entrepreneur Board is responsible for studying, surveying and supporting small businesses owned and operated by entrepreneurs from underrepresented backgrounds. This includes companies founded and managed by a business owner from one of the following backgrounds: women, BIPOC founders, veterans or persons with disabilities. The Emerging Entrepreneur Board is accepting applications for its three open positions. Those with experience in economic development and working to address racial income disparities are encouraged to apply.

Women's Investment Circle

Groove Capital announced it is launching a women’s angel investing circle to fuel Minnesota-based startups. The firm hopes to have 15 to 20 women involved in its first cohort and invest up to $5,000 in one or two startups. Long term, the group hopes to support innovative businesses, drive meaningful value and build lasting support.

Minnesota Business Snapshot

Minnesotans now have easier access to valuable insights about the state’s business community thanks to two new interactive reports released by the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State. Data from the Minnesota Business Snapshot (a voluntary survey completed by over 775,000 business owners since 2016) is now available.
