Paid Leave Updates

DEED’s Paid Leave team is committed to collaborating with stakeholders to build an intuitive and accessible Paid Leave program that works for businesses, individuals, healthcare providers and all Minnesotans.

Earlier this month, Paid Leave confirmed that when the program begins in 2026, the premium rate will be 0.88%. The premium rate is a percentage of an employee’s wages that will be paid by the employee and their employer to fund the program. A new calculator tool can help employers and employees estimate their costs under Paid Leave.

New Cannabis Small Business Programs

DEED's new initiatives – the $2 million CanNavigate program and the $6 million CanStartup program – will provide technical assistance and increase access to capital for business owners looking to start and grow cannabis businesses in Minnesota. The programs come as DEED, the Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) and other state agencies look to support business owners seeking licenses to operate in Minnesota and to contribute to growing Minnesota's economy.
