DEED Recognized as Yellow Ribbon Organization for its Commitment to Veterans and Their Families
Recognition highlights DEED’s commitment to its employees who are current and former members of the U.S. military, plus the employment services it provides to veterans statewide
St. Paul -The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) is honored to be named as a Yellow Ribbon Organization for its efforts to recruit, hire and retain employees who are military veterans. In order to become a Yellow Ribbon Organization, an organization needs to develop a sustainable action plan demonstrating long-term commitment to current and former U.S. military service members and their families. DEED's proclamation as a Yellow Ribbon Organization was announced at the opening ceremony for the 16th annual Veterans Career Fair today in Brooklyn Center.
“We are grateful for the skills, experience and commitment that the 87 veterans who work at DEED bring to the job every day,” said DEED Commissioner Steve Grove. “Becoming a Yellow Ribbon Organization was a natural fit for our agency because not only do we proudly employ veterans, we also assist veterans throughout Minnesota in finding stable, family-sustaining employment.”
DEED and the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) co-hosted the 16th annual Veterans Career Fair today at the Earle Brown Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center. Today’s career fair features nearly 100 employers offering full-time positions with family-sustaining wages and benefits.
There are nearly 140,000 veterans of working age who live in Minnesota. The CareerForce Veterans Employment Services team at DEED provides veterans dedicated career exploration, job search and networking support. During the last fiscal year, CareerForce Veterans Employment Services served 585 veterans, 89% successfully exited the program and the average wage at exit was $24.03 an hour.
In making the determination that DEED qualified as a Yellow Ribbon Organization, the Minnesota Department of Military Affairs (MNDMA), also known as the Minnesota National Guard, considered DEED’s long history of honoring, supporting and valuing the veterans and current service members who work for DEED, along with their families. MNDMA Yellow Ribbon Program staff also reviewed the policies that DEED has implemented and is committed to implementing aimed at the recruitment, hiring and retention of veterans, service members and their spouses. DEED joins 81 other Yellow Ribbon Organizations in Minnesota, including three state agencies. To find out more about becoming a Yellow Ribbon Organization, visit the Yellow Ribbon website.
