Dislocated Worker Program - you may be eligible!

If know of anyone who has been laid off (didn’t quit or weren’t fired), are eligible to receive unemployment insurance benefits, and are unlikely to return to their previous occupation or industry, they may be eligible for the Dislocated Worker program.

Services include, but are not limited to:

  • Career Counseling 
  • Free computer lab access
  • Resume writing assistance including creating online resumes
  • Skills assessment and training to enhance skills
  • Free workshops designed to help jobseekers with all aspects of the job search. Workshops may cover topics such as:
    • Computer Skills
    • Networking
    • Self-Marketing
    • Accessing Certifications/Training
    • Career Transition/Skills Transition

All services are free and tailored to fit individual needs.

People can apply to the program by going to CareerForce and click on the “Change Your Career” option under For Career Seekers or contact Leah Temkin from Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Minneapolis at 952-417-2108 or Heidi Stay from Department of Employment & Economic Development at 651-539-4421.

People can also get a head start if they Fill out the short interest form. Once submitted, an employment counselor will contact them within five to seven business days to help find the next steps forward.

November Dislocated Worker Schedule

Sign up to be virtually prescreened and receive information via email, phone and/or Skype about the Dislocated Worker Program, eligibility criteria, process and how it helps job seekers get back to work.

This series will help beginners navigate free applications such as Gmail, Drive, Meet, Docs, Slides and Sheets so you can learn to use these services to your best advantage.

Employment and Training Programs

City of Minneapolis Employment and Training

City of Minneapolis Employment and Training administers a variety of employment and training programs under the direction of the Mayor, City Council, and Minneapolis Workforce Development Board. Our programs:

Career Pathways Trainings offer job seekers free or low-cost, accelerated trainings that prepare them for careers in high demand job sectors including Healthcare, IT, Public Safety and the Trades.

Minneapolis Works - Assistance finding a job for low-income, Minneapolis residents ages 18 and older.

WIOA Adult - Employment and training services to eligible adults 18 and over who are looking to gain skills and employment in healthcare, IT, manufacturing, construction or administrative services.

Minneapolis Youth Works - Assistance with high school completion, work preparation or employment goals for Minneapolis Youth ages 14-21.

Dislocated Worker Program - Comprehensive services for those who have lost their job through no fault of their own for adult ages 18 and older.
