Wednesday, March 3, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.


Women in Construction Career Expo - March 11

Thursday, March 11, 2021 from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.

  • From 4:30-5:30, guests are invited to a panel discussion, hosted by Apprenticeship Minnesota at the Department of Labor and Industry. Attendees will learn about the earn-as-you-learn apprenticeship model and hear from women in registered apprenticeships in the building and construction trades. Representatives from Women Building Success and Building Strong Communities will also discuss their program initiatives which focus in increasing diversity within the building and construction trades.
  • From 5:30-6:30, guests circulate virtual booths and interact directly with registered apprenticeship program representatives through chat and video interview.
  • There is no charge to participate in this exciting event; participants join by phone, mobile device ore computer with internet access.

CLASS DESCRIPTION:  The job market is constantly evolving. COVID-19 has impacted our global workforce and our local job market. Industries have had to shift how they produce and deliver services and goods. In this class we will learn about some of those many shifts and you will be provided tools and techniques to take the pulse of our constantly changing labor market to help you effectively search and interview for your next job.

CareerForce Explore Careers - March Series

Each Tuesday from 2:30 – 3:30 pm, Explore Careers focuses on a different industry and the positions found within it. We will discuss labor market data on growth trends, skills and transferable skills, educational opportunities, apprenticeships, and career pathways within the industries. Dislocated Worker Information Sessions

What are Dislocated Worker Services?

Dislocated Worker services are designed to help people who have been laid off through no fault of their own get back to work as quickly as possible. Sometimes people have barriers to finding employment quickly. These barriers to employment can include a change in demand for your previous occupation, such as we have seen for certain occupations during COVID-19, or other challenges to finding work. 

Services for eligible people can include: 

  • Career planning and counseling 
  • Job search assistance 
  • Connections to employers hiring now 
  • Counselor-approved training 
  • Other support services

March Dislocated Worker Schedule

Sign up to be virtually prescreened and receive information via email, phone and/or Skype about the Dislocated Worker Program, eligibility criteria, process and how it helps job seekers get back to work.

Energy Assistance - Community Action Program of Hennepin County

The Energy Assistance Program can help you pay energy costs-- such as a heating bill-- between Oct 1 and May 30 each year. If you qualify, you could receive a grant to cover some of your energy expenses. This grant is paid directly to your energy provider, to reduce your energy bill.


 

Minnesota Housing - Rent Relief Program Coming Soon

The new program is called COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance and it will help eligible renters with overdue rent since March 2020, up to three months of upcoming rent at a time, and related utility payments. The program will be open for applications in a matter of weeks, with an anticipated launch in late March.

City of Minneapolis Employment and Training

City of Minneapolis Employment and Training administers a variety of employment and training programs under the direction of the Mayor, City Council, and Minneapolis Workforce Development Board. Our programs:

Career Pathways Trainings offer job seekers free or low-cost, accelerated trainings that prepare them for careers in high demand job sectors including Healthcare, IT, Public Safety and the Trades.

Minneapolis Works - Assistance finding a job for low-income, Minneapolis residents ages 18 and older.

WIOA Adult - Employment and training services to eligible adults 18 and over who are looking to gain skills and employment in healthcare, IT, manufacturing, construction or administrative services.

Minneapolis Youth Works - Assistance with high school completion, work preparation or employment goals for Minneapolis Youth ages 14-21.

Dislocated Worker Program - Comprehensive services for those who have lost their job through no fault of their own for adult ages 18 and older.
