Dislocated Worker Information Sessions

What are Dislocated Worker Services?

Dislocated Worker services are designed to help people who have been laid off through no fault of their own get back to work as quickly as possible. Sometimes people have barriers to finding employment quickly. These barriers to employment can include a change in demand for your previous occupation, such as we have seen for certain occupations during COVID-19, or other challenges to finding work now. 

Services for eligible people can include: 

  • Career planning and counseling 
  • Job search assistance 
  • Connections to employers hiring now 
  • Counselor-approved training 
  • Other support services

December Dislocated Worker Schedule

In order for individuals to register to be pre-screened for eligibility for the Dislocated Worker and receive a Pre-screening application, please register for one of the December sessions.

Dec 7th, by 1 pm registration,      Mpls SOUTH

Dec 14th,  by 2 pm registration,   Mpls NORTH

Dec 21st, by 1 pm registration,   Mpls SOUTH

Dec 28th, by 2 pm registration,    Mpls NORTH

Free Covid-19 Test and Flu Shots

The City of Minneapolis is offering free COVID-19 tests and flu shots. You don’t need insurance for the test. Your flu shot is free if you don’t have insurance. If you do have insurance, bring your insurance card for the flu shot.

  • Minneapolis Convention Center, 1301 Second Ave. S., Exhibit Room E Noon-7 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. weekends 
  • Southside Community Health Services, 324 E. 35th St. 2-3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays Appointments required: Call 612-821-3548 to schedule an appointment. You can expect to get your test results in about two-three business days. Same day testing can be done for health care workers, first responders and essential workers.
  • Native American Community Clinic, 1213 E. Franklin Ave. 2 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays Appointments required: Call 612-872-8086 to schedule an appointment.

City of Minneapolis Employment and Training

City of Minneapolis Employment and Training administers a variety of employment and training programs under the direction of the Mayor, City Council, and Minneapolis Workforce Development Board. Our programs:

Career Pathways Trainings offer job seekers free or low-cost, accelerated trainings that prepare them for careers in high demand job sectors including Healthcare, IT, Public Safety and the Trades.

Minneapolis Works - Assistance finding a job for low-income, Minneapolis residents ages 18 and older.

WIOA Adult - Employment and training services to eligible adults 18 and over who are looking to gain skills and employment in healthcare, IT, manufacturing, construction or administrative services.

Minneapolis Youth Works - Assistance with high school completion, work preparation or employment goals for Minneapolis Youth ages 14-21.

Dislocated Worker Program - Comprehensive services for those who have lost their job through no fault of their own for adult ages 18 and older.
