Housing Assistance Available to Help Minnesotans with Past Due Housing Bills
DEED is writing to share information about a housing assistance program that may interest you.
Individuals and households in need of help paying past-due housing bills such as rent, mortgage and utility bills are encouraged to consider applying for the COVID-19 Housing Assistance Program.
Minnesota renters and homeowners with an income at or below 300% of federal poverty guidelines with eligible housing expenses incurred after March 1, 2020 are eligible to apply.
Local administrators review applications from individuals and families requesting assistance, verify eligibility, and process payments for eligible expenses on behalf of households.
Eligible housing expenses include:
- Rent payments
- Mortgage payments* (including escrowed property taxes and insurance in the case of foreclosure prevention)
- Contract for deed payments
- Manufactured home park lot rents
- Manufactured home payments
- Utility payments (i.e. electricity, water, sewer, natural gas, garbage)
- Homeowners Association fees
- Homeowners insurance
- Additional housing related costs approved by Minnesota Housing

The 211 helpline has dedicated multilingual staff to answer questions about the COVID-19 Housing Assistance Program available from 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Given high demand for the program, applicants may experience wait times of several weeks for review of their application.

If you already have a pending application with the COVID-19 Housing Assistance Program, there is no need to resubmit.
