Minnesota startups now have a new source of state funding. Launch Minnesota, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development’s new statewide effort to accelerate startups, is taking applications for Innovation Grants.

Increasing the number of people who enter in nontraditional educational programs could also help curb a labor shortage statewide, according to the city. Currently, the statewide unemployment rate sits at 3.2%, according to data from DEED.

Updates from DEED
According to data released by DEED the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held at 3.2% in October. The national seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for October increased to 3.6%. Minnesota added 7,400 jobs in the month of October. Meanwhile, September’s employment growth was revised up to 1,600 jobs.
National Apprenticeship Week was a great time to raise awareness about the many benefits of apprenticeships to employers and workers. The Minnesota Apprenticeship Initiative (MAI) is a partnership between DEED and the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) and is funded through a $5 million grant through the U.S. Department of Labor and continues through September 2020.
DEED invited startups and entrepreneurs to apply for Launch Minnesota Innovation Grants which target the most promising, innovative and scalable technology businesses in Minnesota. Now, DEED is announcing that Launch Minnesota Education Grants are open to organizations who want to help catalyze our innovation ecosystem.
