DEED awards Child care grants

Northwest Minnesota Foundation receives child care grant

Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan and DEED Commissioner Steve Grove recently announced the recipients of Child Care Economic Development Grants. A total of $727,500 was awarded to 11 organizations throughout Minnesota to increase families’ access to quality child care.

DEED awards MSU-Mankato’s SBDC with grant to help small businesses

DEED recently awarded grants to Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) in Mankato ($274,000), Duluth ($200,000) and St. Cloud ($75,625). The Mankato award went to the Minnesota State University SBDC and will be used to help small businesses in the Mankato area.

DEED Awards $3.6 Million from Job Creation Fund

DEED announced $3.6 million in awards from the Job Creation Fund for business expansions in five Minnesota communities. The awards are expected to generate more than 400 jobs over the next three years. 

Building a Strong Manufacturing Workforce

Manufacturing is a bedrock of Minnesota’s economy. In 2018, manufacturing contributed more than $52 billion to the state’s GDP, the second largest contributing industry. Minnesota manufacturers also paid the second largest payroll in 2018 ($21.6 billion) and had an average wage that was 15% higher than the average for all other industries. 

Ten New Grants Boost Nontraditional Careers for Women

DEED has awarded 10 grants totaling $1,425,000 under the Women’s Economic Security Act (WESA) Competitive Grants program. DEED received about $3.6 million in funding requests, and only $1,425,000 was available for grant awards in the SFY2020-21 funding cycle.

Northern Stacks Brewery represents the final piece of the NIROP redevelopment project

This month Northern Stacks Park added the Forgotten Star Brewery to its site. Marking the completion of the redevelopment of the Naval Industrial Reserve Ordnance Plant (NIROP).  DEED has invested over $6 million into this project which leveraged at least $54 million in private investment.

Minnesota has the fifth lowest rate of citizens without health insurance according to findings from WalletHub. According to WalletHub the percent of Minnesotans without health insurance went down nearly five percent from 2010 to 2017.
