DEED Program Helps Greater Minnesota Cities Rehab Housing

Many Greater Minnesota towns are dealing with the question of how to make better use of an inner core of aging houses that are often too expensive for owners to fix or lacking in the big yards and amenities favored by young home buyers.

For some communities, help is on the way from DEED's Small Cities Development Program. The agency announced in July that 35 cities will share about $19 million for fixes to homes, apartment buildings and businesses. 

Major Development Proposed in Willmar Industrial Park

A yet-to-be named business is interested in constructing a package sorting and distribution center in the Willmar Industrial Park, a business that could bring dozens of new jobs to the city.

CBRE Assignee, working on behalf of the business, contacted a local official about the proposed development after learning the industrial park earned Shovel Ready certification last year from DEED.

PFA Approves $8.77 Million for Greater Minnesota Projects

Six Greater Minnesota cities were awarded $8.77 million in grants and loans from the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority for water infrastructure and sanitary sewer improvements. Funding was approved for Bagley, Brownton, Elbow Lake, Eveleth, Waverly and Wheaton.
