Within the past year, the accelerator scene in the Twin Cities has taken off. There are now at least three boot-camp programs for early-stage firms up and running around town aimed at helping them overcome the odds and succeed in a market in which most startups fail.

The Twin Cities is the second-best metro area in the country for young entrepreneurs, according to an analysis by NerdWallet. The consumer finance website cited the area's high concentration of young adults, low home prices and high percentage of college-educated residents. Strong loan activity by the Minnesota SBA was another factor. Boulder, Colo., was No. 1.

Minnesota Celebrates the Power of Innovation With Yearlong Campaign

State officials have launched the #InnovateMN campaign, which will celebrate emerging technologies and discoveries in Minnesota. Throughout the next year, the campaign will highlight Minnesota’s culture of innovation by sharing stories of businesses and entrepreneurs on the cutting edge.

#InnovateMN also will promote the programs and resources that DEED offers entrepreneurs who are looking for financing or technical assistance to start or expand their businesses.

HONORING OUR SBDC NETWORK

Small Business Development Centers are an integral part of the business ecosystem in Minnesota and nationally. Minnesota has nine regional centers and 19 offices that assisted 3,250 clients last year.

The U.S. Small Business Administration will recognize the work of these centers during SBDC Day on March 22. This special day will be celebrated with social media campaigns, public relations initiatives, events and much more.
