The state’s Graduate Employment Outcomes online tool has been enhanced to display job and earnings of graduates by program at 141 higher education institutions in Minnesota. The main goal of the tool is to help students make informed choices about which fields of study in Minnesota offer the best opportunities for jobs and good wages.

City of Minneapolis Employment and Training

City of Minneapolis Employment and Training administers a variety of employment and training programs under the direction of the Mayor, City Council, and Minneapolis Workforce Council. To learn more about specific programs click on the following links:

  • Minneapolis Works 
    Assistance finding a job for low-income, Minneapolis residents ages 18 and older.
  • Minneapolis Youth Works
    Assistance with high school completion, work preparation or employment goals for Minneapolis Youth ages 14-21.
  • Dislocated Worker Program
    Comprehensive services for those who have lost their job through no fault of their own for adult ages 18 and older.

Americorps VISTA Hiring for the Promise Zone
The City of Minneapolis is recruiting individuals to work for the next year on the Promise Zone efforts.  These are opportunities through Americorps VISTA which serves as the domestic Peace Corps.

It is an opportunity for people to serve their community while receiving a small stipend each month.  Upon completion of the year, people receive an educational award which can be applied to future tuition, or to pay back student loans.

A total of ten positions are available.

Training Opportunities

Communication, Design, and Developer Training
Supported by the MN Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), Asian Media Access is planning for a 13-week "Let's Get IT" Training for 30 individuals that will prepare them for jobs in the communication, design, and developer fields, along with possible certifications in Multimedia, Graphics Design, and Web Development Career Pathways. A preliminary assessment is needed to determine the level of readiness of individuals.

OfficePRO Trainings
OfficePRO, a four-week long training, prepares students for jobs in entry-level office positions such as an Administrative Assistant or Call Center Representative with starting wages at $15 an hour.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Interest in office positions
  • Has a barrier to employment such as a person of color, experiencing housing insecurity, veterans, transitioning from public assistance, or been unemployed for 26 or more consecutive weeks
  • Has a high school diploma or GED
  • Speaks proficient English
  • Has basic knowledge of computers such as sending emails and navigating Windows

Minneapolis WorkForce Centers are offering FREE programs to introduce individuals to new careers. Registration is preferred, but no required. All sessions will be held at the South Minneapolis WorkForce Center (room 207) located on 777 East Lake Street in Minneapolis.

Free Culinary Arts Training
Trainings held every four weeks at Pillsbury United Communities Waite House located on 2323 11th Avenue South in Minneapolis.

The next training start dates are June 20, June 27, and July 25.
