Office of Inspector General – Licensing Division – June 25, 2026
You are receiving this email because you are the authorized agent or center operator for a certified child care center.
The Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) is reaching out to you to provide an update on how we will be approaching visits over the first year after being granted certification. DCYF is committed to working together with you to promote your success as a certification holder and further ensure children receive quality child care. In addition, DCYF wants to ensure that the health and safety of children is maintained.
Over the course of the first year of certification, you can expect to have two visits from DCYF. The first visit will occur approximately six months after initial certification; an annual inspection will occur sometime after that. Both visits will be announced. Your DCYF licensor will contact you to schedule your visits. The six-month visit will be conducted by your DCYF licensor and, if your center participates in the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP), a DCYF program integrity investigator. All newly certified programs will go through this process, even certification holders that have other existing locations. DCYF staff will provide technical assistance at the six-month visit if any noncompliance is identified. After the first year, programs will transition to announced annual reviews.
These visits are an opportunity for DCYF to engage more frequently with all child care providers who recently received a certification. These visits will provide increased technical support and oversight for your program.
We look forward to working closely with you over the first year of certification. If you have any questions, please contact your DCYF licensor, or the DCYF Child Care Licensor on call at 651-431-6015 or DCYF.ccc.licensing@state.mn.us.
