Recently, the State Law Library received a donation from Steve Gordon, an attorney who practiced labor and employment law in Minnesota for over 40 years. While practicing law and traveling extensively, he began collecting lawyer and law artwork from all over the world. The collection includes a variety of materials, composition, and themes. From serious working lawyers and judges to humorous clowns and wine corks, lawyers and the law are depicted in a variety of materials and many diverse contexts. Mr. Gordon's collection is now on permanent display at the Minnesota State Law Library.
The collection can be viewed in a display cabinet at the law library during our regular business hours, but for a sneak peek and information about some of the pieces in the collection, check out this Instagram post featuring Mr. Gordon sharing some of his stories.
Attorney Steve Gordon and his wife Pat Gavan-Gordon present some of the items from the collection during a reception announcing the donation on May 27, 2026.

In this issue, we are spotlighting a database that provides easy remote access to some of your favorite resources: Lexis Digital Library.
Lexis Digital Library provides remote access to numerous treatises, including Minnesota favorites like Dunnell Minnesota Digest, Minnesota Civil Practice, Minnesota Family Law Practical Manual, and Pirsig on Minnesota Pleading. You can also access general treatises like Moore's Federal Practice, Cohen's Handbook of Federal Indian Law, and Larson's Workers' Compensation Law.
For remote access, you can contact Ask a Librarian to request that an account be set up for you. With an account, you can check out a treatise for up to three weeks and access it anywhere you have an internet connection. If you want to access additional titles, you can visit the State Law Library and use one of our computers. There are no limits on the number of items you can access while in person at the library.
