Check out the latest energy-related funding opportunities

The Minnesota Department of Commerce, Division of Energy Resources compiles many of the latest local, state, and federal funding opportunities related to energy research, development, education, and other energy-related topics. Some of the most recent opportunities are highlighted below. A more extensive list of opportunities that are current and still open for application is available on the Commerce website.

Clean Diesel

MPCA: Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) Grant Program. This grant seeks diesel fleet owners from private, public, and nonprofit sectors and will fund clean diesel activities in the State of Minnesota. The DERA program implements clean diesel projects that reduce diesel emissions from older diesel engines to improve air quality and public health. Due Jan. 5, 2018.

EPA: Tribal Clean Diesel Funding Assistance Program FY 2017 EPA-OAR-OTAQ-17-08. EPA’s Office of Transportation and Air Quality is seeking proposals for tribal projects that achieve significant reductions in diesel emissions and diesel emissions exposure, particularly from fleets in areas designated as having poor air quality. Due Jan. 18, 2018.

Environmental Management

EPA: FY 2018 National Environmental Information Exchange Network Grant Program EPA-OEI-18-01. The Exchange Network Grant Program provides funding for projects that develop the Network and enable timely, on-demand access to environmental data through innovative technologies, improved support systems, and expanded collaboration using shared tools and services. Due Jan. 26, 2018.

Geothermal

DOE: Request for Information (RFI): Identifying Opportunities to Address Barriers for Lowering the Cost and Risk of Geothermal Drilling DE-FOA-0001869. The Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO) invites input from the public regarding challenges and opportunities associated with drilling geothermal wells. The overall goal is to better understand barriers to lowering the costs and risks of geothermal drilling for the purpose of electricity production. Due Jan. 22, 2018.

Internship

MPCA: Green Chemistry & Engineering Internship Grant State Fiscal Year 2018 (pdf). The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) seeks to support a “win-win” for both audiences--companies and students--by offering a company with a Minnesota facility a grant to underwrite the cost of a summer 2018 Green Chemistry & Engineering Internship. The goal is to advance the practice of green chemistry and engineering within the host company and apply it to one or more of the company’s products or components. Due Feb. 23, 2018.

Nuclear

DOE: U.S. Industry Opportunities for Advanced Nuclear Technology Development DE-FOA-0001817.  The fundamental premise behind this FOA is to provide a direct vehicle to support innovative, domestic nuclear industry-driven designs and technologies that have high potential to improve the overall economic outlook for nuclear power in the U.S. Due Jan. 31, 2018.

Research & Development

DOE: ARPA-E OPEN FOA. Approximately every three years, the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) issues OPEN funding opportunity announcements as a means to address the full range of energy-related technologies. A broad variety of projects will be welcomed, including electricity generation by both renewable and non-renewable means; electricity transmission, storage, and distribution; energy efficiency for buildings, manufacturing and commerce, and personal use; and all aspects of transportation. Concept papers due Feb. 12, 2018.

Solar

Xcel Energy’s Solar*Rewards Program. This program provides incentives to Xcel Energy customers who install solar energy systems. It begins taking applications on Jan. 8, 2018 and will provide recipients with 10 years of annual incentive payments based on the solar energy system’s annual production. Solar*Rewards is available to Xcel customers on a first-come, first-served basis.

Minnesota Power’s SolarSense Program. This program provides rebates to reduce the upfront costs of installing solar and helps make solar energy a more viable option for Minnesota Power customers. SolarSense will begin taking 2018 applications on Jan. 9 and is available to customers installing a solar electric system. It is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Wind

DOE: U.S. Offshore Wind Research and Development Consortium FOA DE-FOA-0001767. The U.S. Offshore Wind Research and Development Consortium FOA solicits an administrator to establish and lead a voluntary consortium of members committed to shared public/private investment in collaborative R&D focused on realizing technology improvements for the offshore wind industry in the United States. Due March 26, 2018.

MN Clean Energy Job Board lists clean energy jobs

The MN Clean Energy Job Board is a job-seekers tool to help find jobs in the energy efficiency and renewable energy fields; employers can use it to post their latest openings. All jobs are focused on the implementation of clean energy in Minnesota and are not related to advocacy or policy. See the listing on the Clean Energy Resource Teams (CERTs) website.
