We are committed to keeping our customers informed about important updates we are making to our infrastructure – designed to enhance safety, improve reliability, and continue to provide you with the energy you need for life's moments. The following outlines the final phase of a multi-year effort to modernize the distribution system in your neighborhood.

Overview

Beginning as early as July 7, CenterPoint will install modern natural gas infrastructure along Columbus Avenue South. Construction will take place between 48 Street East and 54 Street East. Work is expected to last through the fall with potential to wrap up in the spring of 2026.

Contractor summary

CenterPoint works with multiple contractors to complete construction projects in a safe and timely manner. You will see these contractors working in your area and may be contacted by them at various stages in the construction process. Employees of authorized contractors will have CenterPoint Energy identification cards. You are encouraged to ask to see identification before allowing technicians inside your home.

Natural gas main work

Sections of large diameter steel gas main will be installed across a few blocks at a time. These sections will be welded together and will require a trench to be opened in the road. The new main will have protective coatings that add to the infrastructure's durability.

Noise, vibration and dust are expected impacts of steel main installation.

Service line and meter work

No work associated with this project will be performed on the service lines or gas meters that supply your home’s energy. No interruptions in service are expected at this time.

Restoration

The final step in an infrastructure project is to restore all impacted areas. Restoration is typically on site a few weeks after the completion of all other construction. Until then, temporary restoration is done by the utility crews to maintain an area's livability.

Traffic impacts

A few blocks will be closed at a time while a trench is open in the road. Specific closures will be communicated as they are determined. Resident’s access to their homes will be maintained throughout construction, and detours will be in place.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we replace our infrastructure! We value the privilege of having you as a customer.
