What is the crews’ progress?

Below is what Bryn Mawr residents can expect in the latter half of August. A few crews from Michels Corporation, a CenterPoint Energy authorized contractor, will be working. The schedule is subject to change based on weather and the crews’ progress. We appreciate your patience.

Natural gas main work

Upton Avenue S. and Thomas Avenue S.

The crew has installed the natural gas main under the east sidewalks of Upton Avenue S. and of Thomas Avenue S. between Chestnut Avenue W. and Laurel Avenue W. They are putting temporary backfill on the excavations. These will stay in place until the second Michels Corporation crew will come to work on customers’ service lines and meters at a time to be determined.

This week, the crew is working on the gas main on Upton Avenue S. at Cedar Lake Road. During this time, residents can park on Upton Avenue S.

On Thursday, August 22, the crew plans to connect the new main on Thomas Avenue S. to the existing intersecting mains at Chestnut Avenue and at Laurel Avenue. During this time, parking will be restricted in front of 1 Thomas Avenue S. and 257 Thomas Avenue S.

Laurel Avenue W.

This week, the crew is installing the natural gas main under the north sidewalk of Laurel Avenue W. between Upton Avenue S. and Sheridan Avenue S. For most of the week, traffic will remain open with flaggers directing traffic. The north sidewalk will be closed while the south will be open.

On Thursday, August 22 and Friday, August 23, the crew will close about 50 feet of Laurel Avenue east of Sheridan Avenue. During this time, Sheridan Avenue S. will remain open for northbound and southbound traffic. Detour signs will redirect drivers to Sheridan Avenue S., Cedar Lake Road, and Russell Avenue S.

Sheridan Avenue S.

This week, the crew is installing the natural gas main under the east sidewalk of Sheridan Avenue S. between Chestnut Avenue W. and Laurel Avenue W. Parking restrictions will be in effect Mondays to Fridays from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Service line and meter work

Another Michels Corporation crew will move inside meters outside by appointment and replace some service lines and/or reconnect some service lines to the new main. On Wednesday, August 21, they plan to begin on Penn Avenue S., starting at Mount View Avenue and working north to Chestnut Avenue W. They anticipate a few weeks of service line and meter work on Penn Avenue S. in this area.

Two-way traffic will remain open on Penn Avenue S. One sidewalk will be closed at a time with the opposite sidewalk open. Although the crew plans to work on one block at a time, their progress and schedule is subject to change.
