What is the crews’ progress for early June?
From June into July 2024, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will replace CenterPoint Energy’s natural gas infrastructure in Downtown East and West in Minneapolis. Below is a summary of the work:
- First, the crew plans to bore the main underneath one sidewalk on each road.
- Second, they will either fully replace the service line or reconnect it to the new main, depending on the line’s age.
- Third, the technician will make a two- to three-hour appointment to move an inside meter outside. They will access the meter inside the house, move the meter outside, and relight the natural gas appliance pilot lights after the new meter has been relocated.
- Fourth, after the gas work, the gas crew will backfill the excavated areas with temporary dirt or gravel before the restoration crew arrives to put down concrete or black dirt, grass seed, and biodegradable netting. There may be several weeks before permanent restoration occurs.
Along the following streets, they will replace the natural gas mains, move inside meters outside by appointment, and replace and/or reconnect service lines to the new main:
- Park Avenue S. from 15th Street E. to 17th Street E. and from 7th Street S. to 620 Park Avenue S.
- The intersection of Portland Avenue S. and 6th Street S.
- 7th Street S. from Park Avenue S. to 619 7th Street S.
Along the following streets, the crews will only move inside meters outside by appointment and replace and/or reconnect service lines to the new main:
- Park Avenue S. from 10th Street S. to 8th Street S. and from 4th Street S. to Washington Avenue S.
- Portland Avenue S. at 16th Street E., from 10th Street S. to 9th Street S., from 7th Street S. to 8th Street S., from 6th Street S. to 5th Street S., and from 3rd Street S. to Washington Avenue S.
