What is CenterPoint Energy doing?
CenterPoint Energy’s natural gas line replacement project has been continuing throughout May and will continue into early summer 2024. Crews from Michels Corporation, a CenterPoint Energy authorized contractor, have been replacing the natural gas lines, while Q3 Contracting will follow most likely in June to begin their restoration efforts. One Michels Corporation crew replaced the natural gas mains under one sidewalk on the following streets:
- Xerxes Avenue N. from McNair Avenue to Plymouth Avenue N.
- Washburn Avenue N. from Plymouth Avenue N. to 1423 Washburn Avenue N.
- McNair Avenue from Xerxes Avenue N. to 2821 McNair Avenue N.
- 17th Avenue N. from Xerxes Avenue N. to Vincent Avenue N.
Two other Michels Corporation crews began moving inside meters outside and replacing and/or reconnecting the service lines to the new mains. While one crew is on McNair Avenue between Xerxes Avenue N. and Washburn Avenue N., the other crew is on Washburn Avenue N. between Plymouth Avenue N. and 16th Avenue N.
Both crews anticipate their work to last the week of May 27 and possibly into early June. During this time, the crew on McNair Avenue has reduced traffic to one lane. The crew on Washburn Avenue N. has closed parking on both sides of the 1300 block for the rest of this week and will move the “no parking” signs to the 1400 block as they move there, most likely in the week of June 3. One sidewalk will be closed at a time while the opposite will remain open.
Both crews anticipate their work to last into June.
Q3 Contracting, a CenterPoint Energy authorized contractor, plans to follow a few weeks after the natural gas work is done. In the meantime, customers will see temporary backfill such as dirt, gravel, or temporary asphalt on the excavations. The areas will be restored to their original condition. Boulevards and lawns will receive black dirt, grass seed, and netting that degrades over about four months.
