What is the crews’ progress?
Crews from Michels Corporation, a CenterPoint Energy authorized contractor, anticipate continuing the natural gas replacements in Whittier into summer.
One crew has been replacing the natural gas mains. They anticipate their work will last into mid-June. During their work, residents and businesses can expect one sidewalk closure at a time. Parking may be closed on both sides of the roads where the crews are working. Some lanes may be closed, and some intersections may be partially closed.
Another few crews have been moving inside meters outside by appointment and replacing and/or reconnecting service lines to the new mains. The crews plan to have the same or similar sidewalk and traffic impacts as the main crew’s impacts. (Please find more details about meter move and service line replacements on the project’s web page here.) One crew completed their work on Stevens Avenue from Franklin Avenue to 26th Street W. and on Clinton Avenue from Franklin Avenue to 24th Street W.
For approximately one month, the service line and meter crews plan to pause their work, so that the main crew can install more footage of the project’s natural gas mains. Then the service line and meter crews will follow to connect customers’ properties to these new mains.
