Overview
In 2023, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors replaced natural gas lines on 50th St. W. between Abbott and Lyndale Avenues S.
From early April into summer 2024, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will replace a natural gas main, move inside meters outside by appointment, and replace some natural gas service lines as needed in the Lynnhurst Neighborhood. The project’s area is between 46th Street W., W. Minnehaha Parkway, and Lyndale Avenue.
Below is a summary of what to expect in Lynnhurst this year. Find more details at the project’s web page here.
Small-diameter natural gas plastic main
In mid-April, the crew plans to bore a small-diameter natural gas main under the southern sidewalk of 48th Street W. just east of Emerson Avenue S. and under the northern sidewalk of 48th Street W. between Bryant and Lyndale Avenues S. When the crew will install the new main, they will close the sidewalk where the main will be replaced. They will close parking on both sides of 48th Street W. Traffic will remain open.
Service line and meter work
In the two- to three-hour appointment, the technician will access the natural gas meter inside the house, move the meter outside, and relight the natural gas appliance pilot lights after the new meter has been relocated. We encourage customers to work with the crew on where they want the meter to go, keeping limitations in mind such as a minimum of three feet away from areas such as windows, doors, and vents.
Restoration
After the gas work, the gas crew will backfill the excavated areas with temporary dirt or gravel before the restoration crew arrives to put down concrete or black dirt, grass seed, and biodegradable netting. There may be several weeks before permanent restoration occurs.
