What is the crews' progress?

North of Minnehaha Creek

  • The crews have closed 15th Avenue S. from E. 32nd Street to the Powderhorn Park entrance, working south to replace natural gas main. Approximately September 12 or 13, the city will pave from 32nd to 33rd Streets E. Powderhorn Park access is open from E. 35th Street.
  • The crews have closed 14th Avenue S. from 35th to 38th Streets E., working south to replace natural gas main. Today on September 5, the crews will pave from 35th to 36th Streets E. and reopen tomorrow.
  • The crews have closed 14th Avenue S. from 41st to 44th Streets E., working south to replace natural gas main. Approximately September 12 or 13, 14th Avenue S. will be paved from 41st to 42nd Streets E.
  • The crews have closed 14th Avenue S. from 47th to 48th Streets E., working south to replace natural gas main. Approximately September 12 or 13, 14th Avenue S. will be paved in this area.
  • The crews have closed 14th Avenue S. and Minnehaha Parkway and have installed the new natural gas main in this area. Today this area is being paved and it will be reopened tomorrow.

Intersections with reopening dates

Currently the crews have closed the following intersections, whose reopen dates are as follows:

  • 15th Avenue S. and E. 33rd Street (opened by approximately September 14)
  • 14th Avenue S. and E. 42nd Street (opened by approximately September 14)
  • 15th Avenue S. and E. 36th Street (opened tomorrow on September 6)
  • 14th Avenue S. and E. 49th Street (the date of the opening will be published on this website)
  • 14th Avenue S. and Minnehaha Parkway (opened approximately tomorrow on September 6)

Intersections with closure dates

  • Tomorrow on September 6, the crews will close the intersection of 14th Avenue S. and E. 37th Street.
  • On Monday, September 7, the crews will close the intersection of 14th Avenue S. and E. 48th Street.

 

South of Minnehaha Creek

The crews have closed 14th Avenue S. to through traffic from 50th to 55th Streets E.

  • By September 10, all the new natural gas main installations are expected to be complete. The exception is that within the week of September 16, the crews will connect some natural gas main to the new vault at the south side of E. 53rd Street.
  • In this area, the crossing intersections of 50th, 51st, 52nd and 53rd Streets E. are open to traffic. These intersections will close to accommodate paving as needed as restoration work progresses.
  • Late within this week, 14th Avenue S. will be paved from 50th to 52nd Streets E. The date for paving from 52nd to 55th Streets E. will be published on our website.
  • Approximately September 11 or 12, the intersection of 14th Avenue S. and E. 54th Street will be opened.

The crews have closed E. 55th Street to through traffic from Chicago Avenue S. to 14th Avenue S.

  • By September 12, all the new natural gas main installations are expected to be complete. The crossing intersections of Elliot, 11th, 12th and 13th Avenues S. are currently open to northbound and southbound traffic.
  • E. 55th Street is currently paved from 10th to 12th Avenues S. Tomorrow on September 6, E. 55th Street will be paved from 12th to 14th Avenues S.
  • Currently the intersection of E. 55th Street and 10th Avenue S. is closed. On Monday, September 9, the intersection of E. 55th Street and 10th Avenue S. will reopen. On that day the crews will close E. 55th Street and Elliot Avenue S.

Upcoming closures

  • On September 10, the crews will begin closing E. 56th Street from Portland to Chicago Avenues S.
  • On September 12, the crews will begin closing Chicago Avenue at 55th and 56th Streets E.
  • In the southwest corner of E. 60th Street and Portland Avenue, the date for final work will be published on our web page.
