2020 African Heritage Day on the Hill

The 2020 African Heritage Day on the Hill will take place on Feb. 26th from 2 - 4 pm in the State Capitol Rotunda, 75 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard. Saint Paul, MN, 55155.

Join the Council as we rally in the Capitol Rotunda and to discuss furthering equity in our state. There will be  remarks from  Minnesota's United Black Caucus members, Gov. Walz, Attorney General Ellison, State Commissioners of African Heritage and Chris Taylor the Governor's Chief Officer of Inclusion.

Give public testimony: If you have been impacted by discrimination based on your natural hair texture and hairstyle in the workplace or education setting and would like to share your experience at a public hearing, please contact Jasmine Carey at 651-757-1753 or Jasmine.Carey@state.mn.us ASAP.

*Note:You may send in written testimony as well.

Contact your legislator: Schedule a legislative visit, send an email or call your legislator and encourage them to support the Crown Act. Sign on to our organizational support letter: If you would like to have your organization listed as a supporter, please contact our office.

Attend a Public Hearing: It makes a big difference when community members show up to  public hearings, so please try to come out to the Capitol and support this bill next week. The more people there are in the room, the bigger the message we can send.

Action Alert: Legislaive Taskforce on Child Protection Hearing

The Legislative Task Force on Child Protection is holding its first hearing on February 21st Our policy partner, Village Arms is urging the African Heritage community to attend the hearing to stand in solidarity with our children and families and in support of the African American Family Preservation Act. We will gather on the first floor of the senate building at 9 am and will enter together as a group at 9:30 am. Legislative Training Session

The Council will be hosting a legislative training session prior to our African Heritage Day on the Hill. This training will cover include an overview of the legislative process, information on how to engage in the legislative process during session and legislative visit preparations.

Meetings are generally open to the public unless otherwise stated. Community members are welcome to attend either in-person or via phone and speak to the Council during the public comments section of each meeting's agenda. Parking is free on the Orange level of the parking ramp behind the Centennial Office Building.
