Yesterday, the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines Commission passed an amendment to the MN Sentencing Guidelines to cap most felony probation sentences in the state of MN at five years. The vote was 8-3 in favor. This is great news for a state known for its gross racial disparities, particularly in the justice system. If no legislative changes pass during the 2020 session, the new guidelines will go in effect August 2020. For those who are sentenced after August 1, 2020 , their probation terms will not exceed five years. See our letter in support of this policy by clicking HERE
