Hello Chanhassen Residents
I rarely send back-to-back emails, but I wanted to reach out again to answer a question many of you are asking: “What is going on downtown?!?”
First, thank you for your patience. We know that navigating the current sea of orange cones, detour signs, and road closures is challenging. The good news is that these disruptions are temporary, and we are on the precipice of major improvements that will benefit our community for years to come.
Below you will find:
- A breakdown of the current construction projects
- Ways you can continue to support our downtown businesses during this transition
- An update on the community campaign to "Save Old St. Hubert’s Church."
Civic Campus
Work continues around City Hall on the new Civic Campus. Crews are currently focusing on landscaping and installing key park amenities, including the performance stage, splash fountain, and playground. The project remains on schedule, with the goal of opening to the public by the 4th of July.
Market Boulevard Closure
Market Boulevard is a key downtown corridor, and the major infrastructure project that is now underway will replace the watermain, improve pavement quality, and add new turn lanes and sidewalks for better pedestrian access. To minimize disruption, the road will be closed in phases. Please note that all lanes will temporarily reopen from June 29 to July 6 in order to ensure full access for our community's 4th of July Celebration.
Chan View Street/Post Office
This road is temporarily closed for infrastructure improvements as part of the larger Market Blvd project. Front parking lot access will remain available from Laredo Drive using the existing counterclockwise traffic pattern, while rear parking lot access and the USPS drop box will continue to be accessible from Market Boulevard. This closure is expected to last approximately three additional weeks and you can learn more (and view a detour map) by clicking here.
78th Street, between Powers Boulevard & Kerber Boulevard
CenterPoint Energy is currently upgrading local natural gas pipelines. This essential infrastructure investment ensures the continued safe, reliable, and consistent delivery of natural gas to our community. Crews expect to conclude all work and restoration by June 8.
Roers Apartment Construction
Construction on two new downtown apartment buildings is progressing rapidly. Here is a quick breakdown of what to expect:
- The Harlow (Eastern Building): Anticipated to open in late fall 2026.
- The Bennett (Western Building): Anticipated to open in summer 2027.
- For details, visit the websites for The Harlow and The Bennett.
In addition to new residential spaces, the ground floor will feature five commercial tenants, including a sit-down restaurant with outdoor patio seating.
Supporting Downtown Business
While we are excited about Chanhassen's growth, we know construction can be challenging to our local businesses. To support them during this busy season, we invite you to join us for a community celebration!
Bring the family out for an evening of live music, great food, and fun activities. It is a perfect opportunity to come together, enjoy our community, and show our local businesses some extra love. We hope to see you there!
Old St. Hubert’s Church
St. Hubert’s Parish and the Archdiocese have recently slated the historic "Old St. Hubert’s Church" for demolition. Because this is a private decision made entirely by the church, the city has no jurisdiction or authority over the outcome. However, we are participating in community meetings and stand alongside the residents and parishioners who have formed the "Save Old St. Hubert’s Church" group.
They are actively seeking community support to help fund and advocate for their preservation efforts. Please follow the links for more information.
Thank you again for your patience and support of our downtown. We are proud of the work that is being done.
Warmest Regards,
Elise Ryan eryan@chanhassenmn.gov
