Hello Chanhassen Residents,
Veterans Day
It was a true honor to speak at the Veterans Day event held yesterday at the Chanhassen Senior Center. As I looked into the audience and saw the proud servicemembers donning their branch of service logos, I got a little choked up as I expressed my love of country and immense appreciation for their service. With Veterans Day on Tuesday, I would like to thank, on behalf of our city, all veterans for their service to this great nation. Your bravery in service and your commitment to defending our freedoms is truly appreciated. May you always know that your service has made a difference by allowing us to live in the best country in the world – and we thank you.
City Hall Public Open House
Thank you to the nearly 600 people who walked through the doors of our new City Hall last weekend. It was so great to see so many take such an interest in the city’s new space. I personally enjoyed seeing familiar faces as well as meeting many of you with whom I’ve communicated over the years. Thank you for the feedback, questions, and continued support of the city.
Additionally, thank you to our Communications team for organizing the incredible event and all city staff for coming in on Saturday to greet our residents and neighbors. Your energy and expertise were appreciated by all.
Highway 7 Project
Last night, MnDOT held a public open house for multiple communities along the Highway 7 corridor. I have heard from residents expressing concern over the lack of communication regarding the proposed project. Let me be clear, the project is in the “study” phase and the city has limited involvement as MnDOT is leading the effort. We are aware of MnDOT's pavement preservation project scheduled for 2029, however, formal city comment and feedback on what is included in the scope has not officially begun. What has been publicly presented by MnDOT is merely a study with a possible vision for this corridor.
As we look ahead to the spring of 2026, the project will begin the preliminary design phase. At this point, the city will be more engaged, seek resident feedback on the plans, and have an opportunity to impact the design of the project. Additionally, I am part of a coalition of mayors, city managers and engineers who are working collectively to evaluate the plan, safety concerns, and funding opportunities. We are in the early stages of this coalition with the goal to have a unified approach to improve this important segment of highway.
We will keep you informed as this project moves from study stage to preliminary design. In the meantime, please follow this link to review the study and respond to a feedback form.
