Dear Chanhassen Residents,
I hope you are enjoying your summer as we close out July. Please see below for an update on a variety of items that came before City Council on Monday night.
Audit of the Financial Statements
The city is audited on an annual basis and on Monday, Redpath Companies provided City Council with the results. I am pleased to share that the city received a “clean” audit/opinion meaning that the financial statements are presented fairly in accordance with U.S. generally accepted accounting principles. We appreciate the hard work and diligence of our Finance Department.
Moratorium
The City Council voted to approve a six-month moratorium on land use applications as the City Council and commissions review our various ordinances and design guidelines for our downtown/central business district. This moratorium does not prevent businesses and our planning department from continuing discussions on existing applications nor does it preclude our economic development manager from continued engagement on potential development opportunities. It simply gives the City Council an opportunity to evaluate and set in place our vision for the future. With a great deal of interest in Chanhassen, we want to make sure that we have a consistent, well-planned approach to future development in the core of our city.
Downtown Redevelopment
At the Council’s Work Session, Roers Companies presented a redevelopment plan for 78th and Market Blvd. With the closure of the Chanhassen Cinema, Roers Companies has that property and the Country Inn & Suites under contract. Their proposal is for a mixed-use development to include apartments, retail, and restaurants. To be clear, this redevelopment is at the very early stages of discussion with further concepts and neighborhood and community meetings to take place in the future. The most significant piece of feedback was a desire to understand traffic impact and ensure a safe and walkable development. Much more to come in the future, but to review the preliminary information and example designs that were shared with Council, please click the button below.
Avienda Development
The development continues to move forward. With the townhomes underway, additional units of Row Homes also by Charles Cudd were recommended for approval at the Planning Commission this week and are scheduled to come before City Council on Monday, July 24th. Additionally, we have received numerous questions related to Bluff Creek Blvd. The anticipated opening of that connection is October 2023.
Please reach out to me with any questions you may have eryan@chanhassenmn.gov. I always enjoy hearing from you!
Warmest Regards,
Elise Ryan
