Resources for DHH Teachers and Families

Tools we can use

To combat the spread of COVID-19, we’re seeing daily announcements about schools and higher-ed institutions closing or temporarily transitioning coursework to an online format. For students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing, it is important that educators and IT staff plan for accessibility if audio is required in order to participate in the online lessons. Below is a list of resources collected in the past few days.

• Council for Exceptional Children - Division of Communication, Language, and Deaf/Hard of Hearing (CEC-DCD): Coronavirus Information and Resources
• CSD Learns: Online Education in American Sign Language. Designed for the Deaf Community, by the Deaf Community. Students and anyone else can sign up at no cost, learn at their pace in the classroom or at home. Online videos also have captions available too. There's a teacher's toolkit available at no cost too.
• Deaf-Hearing Communications Center: ASL eBooks and Resources for Deaf Kids
• Described and Captioned Media Program (DCMP): Teachers can assign videos for students to watch then do follow up assignments. And all the content is captioned and audio described as well as being free. It is also now matched with Common Core and State Standards, which makes it easy to match up with teaching/learning objectives. If you don't already have an account it is easy to set one up at the DCMP website.
