MN Wetland Professional Certification Program
The Minnesota Wetland Professional Certification Program is ready to offer classes beginning this month! Check out the 2021 Training Course Schedule.
GNSS Training
A webinar training on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS, aka GPS101), surveying, and data collector features was held in June. For more information about this training and to view past training recordings, visit our Online Learning page.
Dam Safety
Attention staff and organizations that are involved in funding, construction, or maintenance of dams. The Association of State Dam Safety Officials has several free videos that explain concepts related to inspections, maintenance, and dam functions. Even if you’re not in charge of inspecting Hoover Dam, the videos are well done and relatively quick to watch (~10 minutes).
Go to the section for Dam Owner Education Video Series: Resources for Dam Owners and Operators | Association of State Dam Safety
Contact Elizabeth Oolman, NRCS State H&H Engineer or one of the BWSR Training Engineers with questions.
Start with “Why” to be Successful
In the book, “Start With Why,” author Simon Sinek shares that starting with the “why” you are doing something rather than the “what” you are doing is important to be successful in your endeavors. Having a bold goal is not enough if you do not have a clear sense of why you are doing something. Knowing the why is important for many reasons, including:
- Being able to articulate the why to others is foundational to inspiring others in the project you are working on
- You are less likely to give up after an initial failure because you understand the higher cause and continue on
Take a few minutes to reflect on projects you are working on to see if you can articulate the why. If not, take time to identify the why so you can inspire and motivate others to support the project!
