Statement from the City of Brooklyn Park on Community Safety
We recognize that stepped-up Federal immigration enforcement efforts in Brooklyn Park and the region are creating fear and anxiety for many in our community.
Brooklyn Park is deeply saddened by the tragic shooting death in Minneapolis on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. Our thoughts are with Renee Nicole Good, her family, and all those affected.
Brooklyn Park’s priority is and will remain the safety and dignity of every resident, without exception.
Mayor Hollies Winston: “Brooklyn Park’s strength comes from trust. We are focused on maintaining public safety, and ensuring that every family, regardless of background, can live without fear.”
When families fear interaction with government, community trust erodes and public safety suffers.
Our city does not enforce federal immigration laws. The city’s role is narrowly focused on maintaining public safety, preserving life, and keeping the peace. Our relationship with residents is paramount. We remain committed to policies that ensure residents feel safe seeking help, reporting crimes, and engaging with city services.
For those seeking information on the immigration enforcement topic, the City has compiled resources related to immigration and community support on our website that we will update:
