Looking for some plans during MEA weekend? We are excited to announce we have rescheduled our Happy Hour and Movie Night for Thursday, October 16 at Historic Eidem Farm. Join us for food, music, drinks, and Legally Blonde on the big screen!
Jake Stow and Kiera will play a live acoustic set from 4-6 p.m. with the movie beginning shortly after. Sunset will be around 6:26 p.m. that evening.
Heavy Rotation will be on site pouring drinks from 4-8:30 p.m. and La Cocina will be serving up their delicious food.

 Host a Spooktacular Booth
Interested in hosting a booth at Spooktacular? Join the City’s Recreation and Parks Department in providing children with a spook-tacular time!
Each year 1,000 children attend this community-driven event. Families are invited to wear their favorite costumes while collecting sweet treats, smiles, and laughter along an outdoor trick-or-treat trail.
Register your business or organization via the link below to host a booth or sponsor candy handouts. Please complete the form, no later than Friday, October 10 to secure your space along the trail.
Spooktacular Event Details
Our FREE community Halloween celebration goes down on Saturday, October 25 outdoors at the Community Activity Center!
Make sure you get your candy bucket ready to go and stop by for sweet treats, smiles, laughter, and more! Dress in your favorite costume for a family friendly trick-or-treat event along the outdoor Spooktacular path. This is a FREE event, no registration required. A DJ and food trucks will be onsite.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to construction at Zanewood please be aware of the construction zone when entering Zanewood. Do not pass through the construction fence, please enter and go right.
There is only one entrance and exit available
Our next Good in the 'Hood is Tuesday, October 14 from 12-2 p.m. at the Zanewood Recreation Center. Get there early!
This event is open to everyone, regardless of age or situation. There is no need to sign up or meet any specific requirements. We believe that access to quality food is crucial.
Distribution Details:
- Each individual is eligible for up to 30 pounds of food, and each dependent will receive an additional 15 pounds
- No sign-up is required; show up and pick the food you want
- First come, first serve while supplies last

We welcome people of all abilities to participate in our programs! Please let us know if you require an accommodation specific to a disability-related need, a behavioral support, an allergy, or other need for inclusion services. Please register early to allow adequate time to process requests.
The inclusion process is as follows: 1. Register for program, indicating a need on the form, online or to the person taking your registration. 2. If you are registering a new participant requesting inclusion services, you will be contacted to discuss strategies for inclusion and to gather participant info. 3. Inclusion plans will be developed based on individual need.

 Fee Assistance
Did you know we have fee assistance and scholarships available?
The City of Brooklyn Park provides fee assistance for all residents of Brooklyn Park to participate in programs.
Assistance will reduce fees up to 75% based on income and household size. Additional fee reduction may be available for families experiencing homelessness or for children that are considered wards of the state.
The maximum scholarship amount is $400 per person, per year.
Additional fee assistance is available for Summer Camp and Summer Fusion.
Scholarships are not available for facility use fees, athletic leagues, private lessons, or trips.

Day Trips: Mille Lacs Indian Museum & Grand Casino Wednesday | November 19 | 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. | $102 | #141011.71 Learn about the journey of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe through museum exhibits and objects from their settlement 300 years ago to their culture, traditions, and lives today. Shop for locally made Native American arts and crafts in the restored 1930’s trading post. Then spend the afternoon at Grand Casino Mille Lacs with lunch at the 1991 Kitchen and time to try your luck in the casino (*casino play is on your own). Lunch will begin with a cup of Marge’s Wild Rice Soup, then your choice of Walleye Sandwich or Grilled Turkey Melt. If you have a Grand Casino Rewards Card, please share the number at registration. A Christmas Carol Tuesday | December 9 | 11 am – 3:45 pm | $91 | #141012.71 Arrive at the 80-acre Minnesota Masonic Heritage Center campus to a lunch buffet: creamy chicken, roasted red potatoes, glazed carrots, salad, dinner roll, and the best assorted dessert options! After lunch move to the elegant jewelbox Gideon S Ives Auditorium for a performance of “A Christmas Carol.” A wonderful fresh look at the story of Ebenezer Scrooge and the ghostly visits he receives; a new musical rendition of the beloved classic tale is sure to be a memorable experience. This magical production blends music, storytelling, humor, and a joyous holiday spirit. Register by November 10.

Much of technology is meant to simplify and more effectively manage daily life. But each device has different options and settings, which can be difficult to understand. It is also important to select the right security settings to protect your personal information. Bring your device (cellular phone, tablet, or laptop) for a free one-hour in-person support appointment in the Senior Lounge. Support includes: basic device overview, settings, troubleshooting, texting, voicemail, email, video calls, app stores, streaming services, and more! This free service is open to Hennepin County residents age 60+.

 Brooklyn Park Walking Group
Walk, talk, learn, and build connections – one step at a time! Learn more about walking group via this cool CCX story!
Join the Brooklyn Park Walking Group, a free community program to promote health, wellness, and social connections through the simple act of walking. This new group will meet every other week for an instructor-led walk and introduce participants to a new trail each week.
Each session will include a health/wellness topic, pre-walk stretch, and group walk at your own pace. This program is open to all fitness / activity levels and aims to create an inclusive, supportive environment where participants can enjoy the benefits of being active together! Wear walking shoes, bring a water bottle, and dress for the weather.

Upcoming Events
 Howl-O-Ween
Bring your favorite pup to Mississippi Gateway Dog Park on Friday, October 10 and celebrate Howl-O-Ween with us! This event is all about the dogs but you will have just as much fun as they will!
We have several free events for you and your pup to enjoy! We got Pawtography, three-minute Caricatures (bring a photo), pup cups, access to the off-leash area, and live music!
Heavy Rotation Brewing Company and La Cocina will be on site to sell you some beverages and food.
Additionally, the first 100 pups receive a treat bag, courtesy of Stone Mountain Pet Lodge!

 Zanewood Fall Festival
The Zanewood Fall Festival is going down on Friday, October 10 from 4-7 p.m. and you don't want to miss out. Come on over to the Zanewood Recreation Center for an escape room experience, but that won't be all that is happening.
We will have a live DJ spinning beats, prizes, a photobooth, a raffle, and food for you to enjoy! This event is geared to our teens but open to everyone so grab your friends and stop on by.
This is a free event and no registration is required. We can't wait to see you on Friday!

 Fall on the Farm
Join us for our annual Fall on the Farm on Saturday, October 11 for an afternoon of fall fun! Stop by anytime from 12-3 p.m. to enjoy the storybook trail, try some fresh apple cider, meet some farm animals, explore the house, and more!

 Apple Orchard Field Trip
Join us on Thursday, October 16 for a field trip to Sunrise River Farm and Apple Orchard. This is a great opportunity during the MEA break from school.
Activities: Apple Picking Petting Farm Country Store with delicious treats Beautiful Scenic Views
Bus will leave Zanewood at 10:15 a.m. You are welcome to drive yourself but please be to the farm by 11 a.m.

 Ghostly Gala
We have reached October, which means spooky season is officially underway. The annual Ghostly Gala is coming to the Community Activity Center on Friday, October 24. Join us for a night of dancing, treats, pizza, prizes, games, and a ton of good times!

Registration includes pizza, soda/water, cookie or chips, games, prizes, costume contest, and candy! Parents and support staff can attend for free, with pizza, cookies, chips, and soda available for purchase.
