Join us for a virtual public meeting on November 13, 2024!
During this meeting, we will discuss what we heard during our summer engagement and share recommendations on whether Hwy 252 should intersect over or under local roads. At the end of the meeting, there will be a brief question and answer session.

More about this project:
Hwy 252 and I-94 in Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park and north Minneapolis need improvements and repairs. Currently, people who use this road experience a high number of crashes, heavy traffic congestion, and unsafe crossings for people walking, biking, and rolling. These challenges impact the cohesiveness and livability of the surrounding communities and the commuters traveling Hwy 252 and I-94 daily.
To find a solution, we will continue the refinement of design elements that were recommended to move forward in the process for further study. During this work, we will work closely with the public and federal/local partners to gain a better understanding of how safety and transportation needs are being addressed with the alternatives. We will also look at how a new design might impact the environment in surrounding communities, including the people, plants, animals, water, air, buildings, and structures.
From 2024-2026, we will analyze and gather community feedback on the recommended design options identified in the prior phase.
Over the next year, we need your feedback on:
- Whether Hwy 252 should intersect above or below local roads
- Recommended locations of Hwy 252 at interchanges
- Improvements for people walking, biking, and rolling
- Number of lanes
- Public transit frequency
- Noise mitigation
- A new road design concept will be chosen in 2026.
Construction is anticipated to begin in 2029.
