On Wednesday, October 16 at 12:00pm, if you are physically in Brooklyn Park, you will receive a test message as part of Hennepin County’s Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) system test.
The Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) system is part of the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS), developed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). It sends alerts directly to smartphones to provide critical information during emergencies, helping you stay informed and safe.
What will the alert look like?
The test alert will automatically appear as a text message on your phone if it's set to receive emergency notifications. The WEA message will typically show the type and time of the alert, any action you should take, and the agency issuing the alert.
Take the survey
As part of the test, the message will include a link to a quick four-question survey – we encourage everyone to participate. Your input helps ensure the county’s emergency alert system is as efficient and effective as possible.
How do I know if I'm getting alerts?
It is recommended that you use the search function in the Settings app to find Emergency Alerts. Turn on State/Local Test Alerts or a similar setting, if available on your phone.
