We have many exciting opportunities and events coming up in July and August here at the city. Looking forward to seeing you all and connecting in-person. We have our upcoming Two Brooklyns One Vision - Racial healing & Racial Justice Initiative event coming up and would like to invite our community to come out and join us on July 29th, 2024, from 5pm-7pm.
We also have coming up our City of Brooklyn Park 2025 Community Goals Conversation in August. We would like to invite all Brooklyn Park Residents to attend and come share what their thoughts are for the city's 2025 goals and for many years to come.

The Hennepin County Youth Activities Grants (HCYAG) program is combining Facility and Playground grant opportunities into one application this fall.
This combined grant opportunity will be called the Play Area grant.
Applications for the following grant opportunities will be posted to the Hennepin County Supplier Portal on August 1, 2024.

Training Opportunities
Minnesota Job Skills Partnership - Low Income Worker Training Program
The Minnesota Job Skills Partnership (MJSP) Board, through the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), is soliciting grant applications for grant funding for the Low Income Worker Training Program. The Low Income Worker Training Program provides grants to eligible organizations to help individuals with incomes at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines, who may be unemployed or working in low wage jobs, receive training to acquire additional skills in order to move up the career ladder to higher paying jobs and economic self-sufficiency. DEED is committed to empowering the growth of the Minnesota economy for everyone. DEED facilitates an economic environment to produce jobs and improve the quality of the state’s workforce.
Request for Proposals
The deadline for the submission of regular grant applications is 4:30 p.m., Central Time, on Monday, September 16, 2024. Late applications will not be considered. The applicant will incur all costs incurred in applying to this RFP.. Proposals should be submitted to deed.mjsp@state.mn.us as one file, including attachments, in pdf format.

Our Employed & Empowered mentorship group is for adults aged 18-24 in the community. You can sign up for the FREE mentoring program HERE. The group meets every Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Zanewood Recreation Center.
Seniors

The breakout speaker lineup includes representatives from Metropolitan State University, East Side Neighborhood Services, the MN STAR Program, and Tech for Seniors. Topic sessions will cover the basics of technology vocabulary and taking control of online privacy to aging in place with assistive technology and a case study of a program that provides secured, limited function tablets to isolated older adults.
We also join keynote sponsor, The Medica Foundation, in welcoming keynote speaker Stephanie Devitt, founder and principal consultant of SDK Communications + Consulting. Devitt will be presenting “Lessons from Minnesota Voices on Telehealth Access and Digital Equity”, combining learnings from the Connectivity Blueprint and a telehealth study conducted by the Minnesota Department of Health.
If you’re an older adult, caregiver, aging services professional, health care provider, senior housing representative, or a nonprofit, foundation, government agency or corporation that serves older adults, this event is for you!

Did you know we have fee assistance and scholarships available?
The City of Brooklyn Park provides fee assistance for all residents of Brooklyn Park to participate in programs.
Assistance will reduce fees up to 75% based on income and household size. Additional fee reduction may be available for families experiencing homelessness or for children that are considered wards of the state.
The maximum scholarship amount is $400 per person, per year.
Additional fee assistance is available for Summer Camp and Summer Fusion.
Scholarships are not available for facility use fees, athletic leagues, private lessons, or trips. Learn more HERE.

Founded in 1974 by Scott McNeal, the Macker tournament began as a small, backyard gathering of friends in Lowell, Michigan. Over the years, it has grown into a nationwide phenomenon, bringing people of all ages and backgrounds together through the love of basketball.
Gus Macker is a 3 on 3 outdoor basketball tournament for everyone! Activities include:
- Family friendly community event
- Double elimination, guaranteed 3 games
- Participate through play, sponsorship, volunteering or just come to enjoy the event!
- Come watch Celebrity, Mascot, Coaches and HEROES game!
There will also be great events including!:
- Slam Dunk Contest $500 prize!
- 3 point contest
- Free Throw Contest
- Join us for skill clinics throughout the day!
Teams can register to participate and be apart of this year's event for $200 until 7/29/2024!
