What's happening at BBAY?

Brookyln Bridge Alliance for Youth

Exciting News + Updates from BBAY

We are halfway through 2024. Let that sink in for a moment. There has been so much exciting work to celebrate in these past 6 months, and there is so much more to come. Below are some things that are coming up!

After-school Community Learning Grant - started July 1!

BBAY is excited to announce we are a recipient of the After-school Community Learning Grant (ACLG) for 2024-2026! This grant allows us to partner with four different schools within the Brooklyns to bring needed programming to youth. With this grant, BBAY will...

  • Introduce Culturally Responsive Tutoring Programming
  • Expand Youth OnBoard
  • Support Affinity Spaces

We would also like to welcome Tristan Yang, Culturally Responsive Tutoring Coordinator for ACLG, to the BBAY team! Contact Liliana or Tristan for more information regarding this emerging programming.

Reimagine Approaching Year 3

There is so much to celebrate within the Reimagine Black Youth Mental Health initiative. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Youth Space has continued to grow allowing young people to grow in community by attending Timberwolves, Lynx & St. Paul Saints games, seeing the Lion King off-broadway, going ice skating, and seeing Inside Out 2.
  • The Reimagine Advisory Council has also been working hard to plan another Youth Summit happening on August 30th.
  • Welcoming Christiana to the team! Christiana is an MSW intern at the University of Minnesota. She will be working with Reimagine on policy change.

In September, RBYMH will be shifting into Year 3 which will focus heavily on policy change based on the identified policy research done in Year 2. Contact Rachel to learn more!

Free College Campaign

Outreach to promote the North Star Promise Scholarship is in full swing for the summer! While tabling, BBAY has connected with nearly 1000 Brooklyn Park & Brooklyn Center residents at these events to share about the North Star Promise Scholarship. The overwhelming majority of people in the Brooklyns don't know about the opportunity of tuition-free college. The Free College Campaign team is also excited to welcome our new Youth Ambassador, Yuridia, to the team!

Contact Kennedy for more information about how to get involved with the campaign.

2024 Youth Data Squad

2024 Youth-to-Youth Survey

Our Youth Data Squad (YDS) -- pictured on the right-- is in their final stages of culminating the Youth-to-Youth Survey for this summer. YDS will be out and about in community this summer surveying their peers to better understand youth perception on wellbeing and safety. BBAY has also welcomed on former-BBAY youth intern, Angel Young, as the Youth Data Squad Specialist to support this project for the summer.

Check out our previous Youth-to-Youth Surveys here and contact Chia for more information.
