Nominations for 2024 Grand Marshal Open Now
This year we are asking the community to nominate our 2024 Tater Daze Parade Grand Marshal. Nominations are open now and run until midnight on May 15. You can fill out the nomination form HERE.
All Nominees must meet the following criteria: 1. a resident of Brooklyn Park 2. over the age of 18 3. someone who goes out of their way to support their community and has made an impact in Brooklyn Park.
Nominees for the Grand Marshal should embody the vision statement of the city and have contributed to one or more of the Brooklyn Park 2025 goals. Only one nominee will be chosen for the title of Grand Marshal. The Recreation and Parks Events Team is in charge of selecting the Grand Marshal. Nominations are due and the form will close on May 15, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.
 Adopting A Park in Brooklyn Park
April 22-26 is Earth Week and a perfect time to volunteer to adopt a park in Brooklyn Park. Our our Adopt-A-Park program offers your organization or family the chance to actively improve our parks and trails. Dive in and make a difference by cleaning up and beautifying a park or trail with the help of our dedicated Recreation and Parks staff. It's not just about having fun; it's about making a real impact in your community. Join us today and be a part of promoting civic responsibility and community pride!
People of all ages and walks of life can be an active part of Adopt a Park program. Youth must have an adult supervisor. Groups could consist of:
- Individuals/families
- Community organizations
- Church groups
- Neighborhoods
- Service Clubs
- Youth groups
- Businesses
- Schools

 May is Older American Month
Did you know that May is Older Americans Month? It is all about celebrating the vibrant lives and remarkable contributions of our elders. This year's theme, "Powered by Connection," emphasizes the transformative power of meaningful relationships.
Recently Mayor Hollies Winston announced a proclamation that May is Older Americans Month at a recent city council meeting.

Avoiding Online Scams: If You Didn’t Buy a Ticket, You Haven’t Won the Lottery Friday, May 17 | FREE | Community Activity Center Scammers and fraudsters take advantage of people of all ages every day, and many specifically target older adults. We’ll share the most common and current scams being reported to authorities and offer practical tips for determining if an inquiry is legitimate. We’ll also discuss security settings that can help reduce risk, how to alert authorities of a suspected scam, and how to file a report if you believe you’ve been taken advantage of.
Tripple Expresso: Plymouth Playhouse Thursday, July 25 | $92 Show are back at the Plymouth Playhouse! Enjoy a luncheon pasta bar buffet featuring Caesar salad, chicken alfredo, meatball marinara sauce, penne pasta, buttered corn, garlic bread sticks, dessert, and beverage. The move to the Plymouth Playhouse for a performance by Tripple Expresso – the story of three guys whose bid for showbiz fame and fortune ended in 4-minutes of magnificent failure on national television.  2024 Step To It
The 2024 Hennepin County Step to It Challenge is underway but it is not too late to join! Walk, run, skip or play a sport, it all counts towards your goal.
When sign up, make sure to select Brooklyn Park as your city, so our community take home the gold! You can create and join additional group(s) to compete against other local neighborhoods, organizations, and more!

 Summer Camp Registration
Spots for our Summer Camps are filling up fast but we still have limited spots available. We still have limited openings at the Community Activity Center, Northwoods, and Willowstone. There are openings at Norwood and also our Preschool Camps at Historic Eidem Farm.

 Fee Assistance
Did you know we have fee assistance and scholarships available?
The City of Brooklyn Park provides fee assistance for all residents of Brooklyn Park to participate in programs.
Assistance will reduce fees up to 75% based on income and household size. Additional fee reduction may be available for families experiencing homelessness or for children that are considered wards of the state.
The maximum scholarship amount is $400 per person, per year.
Additional fee assistance is available for Summer Camp and Summer Fusion.
Scholarships are not available for facility use fees, athletic leagues, private lessons, or trips. Learn more HERE.

Community Gathering: 12-4 p.m. at the Community Activity Center- 5600 85th Ave N
Welcome the summer and connect with neighbors at this family friendly annual event. Celebrate Brooklyn Park’s diverse heritage at the Tater Daze Parade. Enjoy appearances from school marching bands and performers including Ballet Folklorico Mexico Azteca. Following the parade, head to the Community Activity Center to continue the fun. Event highlights include live music with headliner Lt Sunnie, inflatables, food trucks, a makers market and more! Get your family or friends together to kick off the summer with Brooklyn Park.

 Spring on the Farm
Our farm animals are starting to arrive at Historic Eidem Farm, which means our Spring on the Farm event is right around the corner!
Check out the baby chicks that have arrived HERE!
Spring on the Farm is fun and FREE for the whole family! You will get a chance to see the baby chicks, ducks, and goats but that is not all. You can also plant vegetables and flowers in the gardens, explore the grounds, taste the cooking demo on the woodfire stove, enjoy music from the Jolly Pops (11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.) and magic from Magic Tyler! You can also sit by a campfire, play games in the yard, or make a spring craft.
