As spring approaches, it's important to prepare for the potential of severe weather. Brooklyn Park is participating in Severe Weather Awareness Week April 8-12, 2024.
Tornado Drill this Thursday: Minnesota's statewide tornado drills are scheduled for Thursday, April 11 at 1:45pm and 6:45pm. This is an opportunity to practice your emergency plan and familiarize yourself with tornado safety procedures.
From thunderstorms to tornadoes and flooding, being prepared can significantly increase our safety during severe weather events. Check out the following reminders:
-
Stay Informed: Keep updated with weather forecasts and warnings from trusted sources like the National Weather Service.
-
Have a Plan: Develop a family emergency plan, including evacuation routes, meeting points, and communication methods. Ensure all household members know what to do in case of severe weather.
-
Build an Emergency Kit: Prepare an emergency kit with essentials such as water, non-perishable food, medications, flashlights, batteries, and a first aid kit. Don't forget supplies for your pets.
-
Secure Your Property: Take steps to protect your home and belongings from potential damage. Secure loose outdoor items, trim trees, and reinforce windows and doors.
-
Be a Good Neighbor: Look out for your neighbors, especially those who may need assistance during severe weather events. Together, we can ensure everyone in Brooklyn Park stays safe.
