National Battery Day February 18

Remember to have your cart at the curb by 6:30 a.m. Crews have until 6:00 p.m. to finish collection. Make sure your cart is at least three feet away from any objects such as another cart or a mailbox. Place your cart in your driveway or on the boulevard with the handle facing away from the street. Do not put carts in the street.

Have material loose in your cart, never in bags. Plastic bags are thrown in the trash unopened at the sorting facility. Material in paper bags can get stuck inside during compaction on the truck. Meaning it can't be successfully separated at the sorting facility.

February 18 is National Battery Day. Use this as a reminder to properly recycle your old batteries. Bring batteries to either the Hennepin County Drop-Off Facility, 8100 Jefferson Highway year round, or the Special Materials Drop-Off Day, 8300 Noble Ave. held each spring and fall. Batteries are a leading cause of fires at garbage and recycling facilities.
