Arrest Made in Killing of Alameen Shabazz

Update

 

On January 18, 2023, an arrest was made in connection with the killing of Alameen Allah Shabazz, which occurred on June 22, 2021, in Brooklyn Park, MN. Brooklyn Park Police detectives have worked tirelessly investigating this case and pursued leads which resulted in the arrest of Benjamin Perry Richardson. Richardson was located in Bedford County, Virgina and taken into custody by the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office. Richardson is currently being held in Virginia awaiting extradition to Minnesota for 2nd degree murder. Also assisting in this investigation was the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Marshals Service.  


 

Homicide Investigation

Brooklyn Park, MN – On June 22, 2021, at 9:48 p.m. Brooklyn Park officers were dispatched to the Nice Family African Market (7401 Regent Ave) for a shooting.   Witnesses reported that a male suspect was sitting in his car and opened fire upon another male who was walking in front of the store. The victim then entered a nearby vehicle as a passenger and the vehicle drove off.

Officers located the victim’s vehicle being driven by his girlfriend.  The victim was found unconscious and had sustained numerous gunshot wounds.  Medical aid was given to the victim and he was transported to a nearby hospital.  A short time after arriving at the hospital the 22-year-old victim passed away from his injuries.      

Preliminary information indicates that the suspect shot the victim while he was walking into the store. It is not clear what the motive is for the shooting. The investigation into this incident is ongoing. Additional information will be released as soon as it is available.
