NEW - Youth and Adult Partnership - Response and Recovery Fund
In response to recent crisis in Brooklyn Center, the BBA has assisted in crisis response to the needs that emerged in April 2021. Brooklyn Center Community School set up an $1,000 GoFundMe to help respond to the needs that would emerge from the crisis that unfolded when Daunte Wright was killed. The GoFundMe surpassed expectations and at $193k. Brooklyn Center Community Schools did not have the capacity or legal capabilities to manage the fund, so the BBA and Youthprise came together to create a restricted fund that allows folks to get the resources they need.
We are looking for 5 young people to join The Brooklyns Response and Recovery Youth Fund. This Youth-Centered Advisory will make decisions on how funds will be dispersed to support youth and families in the Brooklyn Center community. This youth-centered advisory will 1) have majority youth members, 2) include adults who have demonstrated skills in partnering with youth, and 3) center decision making on the needs and aspirations of youth in community.
The purpose of the funds are to support support youth and families in the Brooklyn Center community that are most impacted by social unrest and closest in proximity to traumatic events.
Funds are intended for;
- Crisis response,
- Healing, youth engagement, and
- Addressing systemic racism using youth centered approaches (e.g. Youth Participatory Action Research).
This fund will be distributed directly to or on behalf of those impacted including individuals, groups, and organizations. Once the advisory is established we will share more information on how to apply for funds.
Here is a link to the Application questions. Please also make sure young people read this first.
