SMALL BUSINESS AND WORKFORCE

The city is monitoring federal, state, county, business and foundation partners to quickly develop business support resources.  

Current support from our partners include: 

  • Applications for $10k Small Business Relieve Grant open now. On Friday June 26 2020, DEED opened the application for its new program meant to assist business affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. Learn about eligibility and apply at the following Small Business Relief Grants Program. The application closes June 2.

  • Minnesota Chamber COVID-19 Toolkit. Minnesota Chamber lists several assistance options available for small businesses to combat COVID-19-related challenges. The federal and state governments have passed legislation meant to speed capital to businesses, so they can make payroll and other financial obligations. The Chamber has a detailed summary of available resources in the funding section of the COVID-19 Business Toolkit. View the toolkit.

  • Urgent reminder!The deadline for SBA to approve Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan applications is Tuesday, June 30. This loan program provides loan forgiveness for retaining employees by temporarily expanding the traditional SBA 7(a) loan program Find a lender and apply today.

  • No cost technical assistance. Representatives from the Liberian Business Association (LIBA) and African Career, Resource and Education (ACER) are available to offer no-cost technical assistance to businesses. Contact LIBA here or reach Denise Butler at ACER at dbutler@acerinc.org or 612-217-0282.

  • Finding and Combining $$$ Sources For Your Small Business 
    The SBA Minnesota District Office is hosting webinars to provide SBA COVID-19 funding options and general technical assistance through the Money Smart for Small Business program developed collaboratively by the FDIC and SBA.

  • Panera Bread has set up a program to buy lunches for front line workers on their website.
  • ACER is providing COVID-19 resources for individuals, businesses and churches

  • Planning to do yard work? Be cautious and call 811 before you dig to check for electrical or gas lines.

  • Scammers are taking advantage of fears surrounding COVID-19. Learn more about Coronavirus scams from the Federal Trade Commission. Tips for avoiding these scams:

    • Hang up on robocalls.

    • Ignore online offers for vaccinations and home test kits.

    • Don’t click on or respond to emails asking for personal information in order to receive an economic stimulus check from the government.

    • Don’t click on links from sources you don’t know.

    • Don’t click on or respond to emails that claim a positive COVID-19 test within your workplace.

    • Don’t click on or respond to emails claiming to be from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or the World Health Organization.

    • Scammers posing as utilities have been active in their efforts to take advantage of nervous customers. Please remind your constituents that Xcel Energy (and likely any other public utility) will not cut off service with a phone call. If a customer receives a suspicious call, they should hang up and reach out to us via the internet, mobile application, or contact information found on their bill. Our website www.xcelenergy.com.
