A message from Brooklyn Park City Council about “Stay at Home” Order

COVID-19 has changed our community in a very short period of time. Now more than ever we want to know how we can support you through this challenging and ever-changing environment.

Yesterday, Governor Tim Walz issued an emergency executive order directing Minnesotans to “Stay at Home” effective Friday, March 27 at 11:59pm through Friday, April 10 at 5pm.

We want to hear from you about how COVID-19 is affecting you and your family. Please take a minute to take COVID-19 Community Impact Survey. This survey will help guide us on what support and resources are needed to combat the effects of the COVID-19 crisis. We will share survey results on our COVID-19 Resources Page.

We will get through this together by looking out for our neighbors and protecting our families and those most vulnerable.

City Services

Before the governor’s “Stay at Home” directive, the city has taken measures to protect the community by closing buildings to the public and continuing to offer services online, by phone or e-mail. Police and Fire have remained fully operational.

With this new directive from the governor, we will continue to offer core city services you rely on: police, fire, and water and sewer. There won’t be any monitoring of those going out in the community during this time but we strongly encourage you to review and follow the governor’s executive order and FAQ.

Things you can do during this time

  • Residents in Brooklyn Park live within walking distance of a park. Enjoy our parks and trails while maintaining social distancing (6 feet away from others) (learn more here)

  • Go to the grocery store and buy enough to last two weeks to reduce trips. Avoid hoarding so essential groceries are available for others who need it

  • Know the facts about COVID-19 and reduce stigmas (learn more here

  • We are a close-knit community, so please check on your neighbors, especially the elderly, to see if they are safe or need groceries or supplies

This is a stressful time for everyone but following these guidelines and the governor’s stay at home order will help us slow the spread of the virus and help our healthcare system catch up. This way we can help those who need a hospital bed and ventilator.
