Building Youth Leaders, Changing Systems
On March 18th and 19th the Alliance partnered Brooklyn Park Youth Services to lead a Youth as Facilitative Leaders (YFL) training. The YFL equips youth and their adult partners to lead and facilitate conversations and consensus building. As youth learn facilitation skills and are supported by adult mentors, they can move into leadership positions, amplify youth voice and help systems advance inclusion practices.
Overall we trained 10 youth leaders and 6 adult partners. Participants came from numerous partners; including City of Brooklyn Park Zanewood Recreation Center, Brooklyn Center, Prairie Seeds Academy, Robbinsdale Cooper, Osseo Senior High, and Park Center high schools.
We will be leading another round of training in the fall 2019. If you are interested in participating in this opportunity please contact Kaysone Syonesa to save your spot!

Taking Action on the Youth Sports Recommendations: Equipment Grant Submitted + Sample Class Designed
Last year we worked with Youth Sport Providers, Parents and Youth to develop recommendations for increasing participation in youth sports for non-participating youth.
Our Community Education Partners are in the process of creating a Youth Sports Sample Class, to attract non-participating youth to try out several sports over the course of a few weeks in an after-school program located at school. Parents will have the chance to access free, easy-entry, youth development focused sport opportunity.
If partners are awarded the Hennepin County Youth Sports Equipment Grant we will have the resources needed to implement this new class this spring and fall. We will evaluate our results to see if this is approach is effective in getting non-participating youth to try out something new.
