Hi neighbor,
Eventually those gorgeous fall leaves go from a pleasure to the eyes to a
pain in the…arms.
As you’re raking, also pick up the leaves out of the gutter.
Leaves can clog up the storm drains and if they end up in lakes or ponds they
can cause algae blooms.
After you’ve raked up your leaves you have to figure out how
to recycle them. Just like paper or cans, leaves can be turned into a valuable
new product: compost.
To recycle leaves you can compost them in a bin in your backyard,
arrange a yard waste pickup with your garbage hauler, or bring them to the
Maple Grove Yard Waste site and drop them off for free. Remember you need to
empty your bags and take them with you.

Don’t let holiday lights that
won’t light on one side make you feel grinchy.
Bring your used lights to the Hennepin County Drop-Off Facility, Ace
Hardware or other participating retailers and place them in their special
recycling bins. To find a drop-off location visit www.recycleyourholidays.org
Don’t put lights in your
curbside recycling cart. Strings, chains, hoses, etc. get wrapped around the
machinery at the sorting facility and end up in the trash.
The folks at America Recycles Day are asking you to recycle some items that far too often end up in the garbage. So what are these common items that get trashed? Check out the video and then take the pledge.
