BOSW Legislative & Rules Committee Conducts "Deep Dive" of Social Work Practice Act

The BOSW Legislation and Rules (L&R) Committee was charged to conduct a “deep dive” review of the Social Work Practice Act (MS 148E and MS 148D) as part of the 2015-2018 BOSW Strategic Plan, and began its work January 25, 2018. The committee meets monthly and is comprised of board members, board staff, and three representatives of the BOSW Advisory Committee to create an opportunity for stakeholder input throughout the process.

The committee’s goal is to ensure relevant regulation and prepare, for board consideration and action, a housekeeping/legislative proposal for the 2020 or 2021 legislative session.

Opportunity for Comment:

The Committee is currently reviewing MS 148E.055, License Requirements, and invites comments from the CSWE BSW and MSW accredited programs. To offer comments you may:

  1. Submit written comments to social.work@state.mn.us
  2. Attend and offer public comment at an L&R Committee meeting either in-person at the BOSW office or via WebEx (for details on attending contact the Board at social.work@state.mn.us)

BOSW FY 2020 - FY 2021
Biennial Budget Proposed

The Board acted to approve the BOSW preliminary FY 2020-FY 2021 (July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2021) budget proposal at its September 21, 2018 public Board meeting to comply with the Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB) budget submission deadline of October 15, 2018.  The preliminary budget approved by the Board included change item requests for increased spending authority for critical expenditures, and a fee increase change item. Budgets will be considered by the Governor for introduction in the 2019 legislative session.

Loan Forgiveness Program for Mental Health Professionals

The Office of Rural Health and Primary Care (ORPHC), Minnesota Department of Health, administers the program funded by the State of Minnesota authorizing the health professional loan forgiveness in both rural program and urban program
