Coronavirus Update for Dental Licensees-

Governor's Executive Order

Today, Governor Walz issued an Executive Order that impacts dental treatment in Minnesota.

  1. Beginning no later than March 23, 2020 at 5:00 pm, and continuing for the duration of the peacetime emergency declared in Executive Order 20-01 or until this Executive Order is rescinded, all non-essential or elective surgeries and procedures, including non-emergent or elective dental care, that utilize PPE or ventilators must be
    postponed indefinitely. must be postponed.
  2. A non-essential surgery or procedure is a procedure that can be delayed without undue risk to the current or future health of a patient. Examples of criteria to consider include:
    1. Threat to the patient’s life if surgery or procedure is not performed.
    2. Threat of permanent dysfunction of an extremity or organ system, including teeth and jaws.
    3. Risk of metastasis or progression of staging

The Minnesota Board of Dentistry has been working around the clock to address this issue. We will be meeting with State and other stakeholder groups and releasing more guidance every few days to help dental professionals navigate the current landscape. The goal for everyone during this time should be to mitigate risks, reduce contact and transmission opportunities, and gain more knowledge. Safety is the most important thing to consider right now and we must stay strong as a community to get through this together.
