Honoring Our Veterans

Veterans Wall

The annual Veterans Wall will be on display at Creekside Community Center and the Civic Plaza Lobby throughout the month of November. The current collection continues to grow each year and includes more than 275 photos of men and women from all branches of service.  If you have a photo you would like to share, please contact Human Services at 952-563-4944, TTY 952-563-4933 or humanservices@BloomingtonMN.gov

The City of Bloomington will honor its Veterans on November 10 during an Appreciation Breakfast at Creekside Community Center. 


Good Morning Vietnam
Monday, November 3, 12:45 p.m.
Creekside Community Center.

An unorthodox and irreverent DJ begins to shake up things when he is assigned to the US Armed Services Radio station in Vietnam.

Starring: Robin Williams, Forest Whitaker, Tung Thanh Tran

Run time: 121 minutes

FREE to attend.

Coffee Talk: Veterans Benefits for Home Care 

Friday, November 14, 10-11 a.m.
Creekside Community Center.

Are you or do you know an older adult veteran or surviving spouse of a veteran? Learn how you can use the VA's pension to pay for up to $25,020 annually to cover home care costs. Join presenter Kaleb Vold as he provides a comprehensive education on the pension including its origin, eligibility criteria, free local resources to successfully guide you through the claims process, and more!

Cost is FREE and coffee and treats are provided.

Cosponsored by Assisting Hands Home Care.


"We Need To Talk"

Join Human Services Saturday, November 22, 1-4 p.m. for this FREE workshop event.  Cosponsored by AARP Driver Safety, this workshop guides families and friends in determining when it's time for their loved ones to hang up the keys.  Registration required.  For more information, contact Human Services at 952-563-4944, TTY 952-563-4933. 


MNsure Open Enrollment

MNsure is for Minnesota residents who are uninsured, self-employed (a sole proprietor without full-time employees), or whose employer does not offer health insurance. MNsure Open Enrollment begins November 15 and will run through February 15.


iPad Tutoring

The first Thursday of each month, the Open Computer Lab will have iPad training available, 9:30-11:30 a.m. Fee is $5 for residents, $10 for non-residents. For more information, contact Human Services at 952-563-4944, TTY 952-563-4933 or humanservices@BloomingtonMN.gov

Winter Clothing Drive

Make a local impact! In partnership with Bloomington Public Schools, the Human Services Division sponsors the Bloomington Winter Clothing Drive. Items will be collected through Monday, November 10. Children sizes are preferred. Donations go to Bloomington elementary school students.

  • Snow pants
  • Snow boots
  • Waterproof gloves
  • Winter coats
  • Hats
  • Socks (new)

Thanksgiving Meal

Human Services invites you to attend a FREE Thanksgiving meal Thursday, November 27,
12:30 p.m.  Meals will be served at:

    10150 Xerxes Avenue S.
  • Atonement Lutheran Church,
    601 E. 98th Street

Fitness at 50+

Don't miss the upcoming Chair Yoga and Zumba sessions this November.

Zumba

Want to try something new? ZUMBA® uses choreographed exercise to target your heart, lungs and muscles to give you the ultimate workout.

  • October 31-December 19
  • Fridays, 9-10 a.m.
  • 7-week sessions: $35 for the session or a $7 drop-in fee for Bloomington resident, $49 for the session or a $9 drop-in fee for non-residents.

Chair Yoga

Learn a gentle form of yoga, how to adapt and accommodate exercises and proper breathing techniques.

  • November 21-December 26
  • Fridays, 10-11 a.m.
  • 6-week sessions: $30 for the session or $7 drop-in fee for Bloomington resident, $42 for the session or $9 drop-in fee for non-residents.
