Let's Go Fishing!

Let's Go Fishing

Let's Go Fishing is a nonprofit organization that will captain a fully accessible boat cruise and fishing experience for older adults.

Enjoy a Minnesotan experience out on Lake Riley on Thursday, September 18, 9 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. The cost of the trip is $10.

The Buyer's Club will be switching back to their regular hours starting Tuesday, September 2.  Open Thursdays, 9-11:15 a.m. and 12:30-1:30 p.m., the Buyer's Club offers fresh produce, staples, dry baking products, pasta, nuts, and more.

Stop by Fare For All Express on Wednesday, September 17, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. and save up to 40 percent on brand name groceries.

Stop by the office at Creekside Community Center to complete a new NAPIS and Human Services registration forms. Get your picture taken, receive your key fob and receive a FREE GIFT.

Enjoy a Minnesota Twins Game Wednesday, September 24. Open to adults 50+ and adults with disabilities.

The bus departs from Creekside Community Center at 11 a.m. and will return at 4 p.m. Food can be purchased at Target Field.

Creekside

Stop by the Creekside Open House Saturday, October 4, 2014, 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Come see programs for adults 50+, visit with members and learn ways you can become involved. Creekside is also home to many community organizations, which will be on hand. Enjoy live music, entertainment, refreshments and much more. Outdoor winter clothing items will be collected for Bloomington children.

Emergency Cell Phones

In cooperation with CenturyLink Pioneers, Bloomington Human Services offers free cell phones programmed to call 911 for residents. Priority is given to low income, homeless, older adults and individuals with disabilities.

Looking to donate a cell phone?

  • Phones, with or without chargers, can be brought into Creekside Community Center.
  • In exchange for the donation, receive a CenturyLink Pioneers cell phone donation form for tax purposes.
  • The phones and chargers are given to CenturyLink Pioneers to refurbish and/or recycle.
  • CenturyLink Pioneers then give the refurbished phones to Bloomington Human Services for distribution.

Educate Girls. Change the World.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 11, 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and come celebrate International Day of the Girl.

This event will feature "Girl Rising," a film about nine ordinary girls from around the globe who confront tremendous challenges and overcome nearly impossible odds to pursue their dreams. This film is recommended for ages 10 and older. Guest speaker and Somali native, Sherry Mohamed will also share her story and the challenges for girls in Somalia today.

This event is free and open to the public. It will take place at Oak Grove Presbyterian Church (2200 W. Old Shakopee Road, Bloomington, MN). Non-profit organizations will be on hand to provide ways to become involved in the fight for girls education.

Receive your flu vaccine during an upcoming flu shot clinics at Creekside Community Center.

Tuesday, September 30, 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Wednesday, October 15, 5 - 6:30 p.m.

Friday, October 31, 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.

No appointment necessary. Both the FluMist, injectable and the High-Dose vaccine will be available. Please bring your insurance card if you have coverage. Shots will be provided to those without insurance and unable to pay.

Naturalization Ceremony

The Human Rights Commission in partnership with the U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will be naturalizing more than 150 individuals into citizenship on Monday, September 15. Naturalization is the process by which U.S. citizenship is confirmed upon foreign citizens or nationals after fulfilling the requirements established by congress. 

50+ Community Leaders

Picnic

A unique opportunity for older adults in the community, 50+ Community Leaders participate in planning, developing and implementing their own programs and activities as part of the Human Services 50+ Program.

50+ Community Leaders are recognized annually at a picnic event for their hard work and dedication to the program. The 50+ Program provides a wide variety of programs and activities Monday-Friday for adults 50+ and all individuals with a disability.
