This week at the Market!

The warm weather this week is certainly helping things grow!  The produce is really starting to roll in and we will finally see some strawberries!  The produce looks great for your 4th of July picnics, be sure to check out the recipe below for some great grilling ideas.

This week at the market you will find lettuce, asparagus, green onions, rhubarb, herbs, sugar snap peas, kale, spinach, kohlrabi, bok choi, broccoli rabe, radishes, new potatoes and strawberries!

Get your groove on with the Dancing Diva's at 10 am, find some new ways to move more and make it fun!  Bike to the market and we will watch your bike and give you a $5 token to shop at the market!  Tokens are limited to the first 50 bikers but the bike corral will be open from 8 am - 1 pm as we celebrate Hennepin County Active Living Day.

Our Tree care specialist will also be at the market this Saturday from
9 am - 12 pm to answer all of your tree care questions.

Brian Peterson will be performing at the market for the first time this Saturday from 10 am - 12 pm.  Be sure to stop by and enjoy the music!

Veggies for VEAP

Veggies for Veap

Take the veggies for VEAP challenge!  Help us stock the food shelves at VEAP with fresh produce from the Farmers Market while supporting our local farmers at the same time!  We are now having a weekly food drive for VEAP and you can add your produce donations to the green buckets found at the market.

Did you know summer is one of the busiest seasons at VEAP?  Serving over 8,000 individuals each month VEAP is seeing record demand, more than they have ever seen in their 40 year history.  Produce is the most requested item at the food shelf and they are thrilled to receive items from the Farmers Market.

Help the Bloomington Farmers Market make a difference, buy some extra veggies to donate - it will be greatly appreciated!

Grilled Vegetables - Gourmet Oil & Vinegar

      veggies

Grilling vegetables is fun and easy and gives them a yummy carmelized flavor.  The secret is to have the pieces a consistent thickness; no more then 3/4" to 1" thick.  Marinating the vegetables for 30 minutes helps them stay moist and tasty.  Don't over cook them, heat just until crisp-tender.  Try these marinades, using a two part oil to one part vinegar ratio.  Add salt and pepper to taste.  Be sure to stop by and visit Gourmet Oil & Vinegar for more ideas!

      Marinades:
Tuscan Herb Olive Oil & Sicilian Lemon Balsamic
Garlic Olive Oil & 18-year Traditional Balsamic
Basil Olive Oil & Strawberry Balsamic
Chipotle Olive Oil & Tangerine Balsamic

      Vegetable Grilling Times:
Prep, wash and dry vegetables before placing in marinade.  Grilling times are short; watch closely and remove when crisp-tender.  Brush with marinade once or twice while grilling.

      Grilling Times:

    • Asparagus 5-7 minutes
    • Bell Peppers halves 2-3 min/side
    • Broccoli 10-12 min
    • Cauliflower 10-12 min
    • Tomatoes 4 min
    • Zucchini slices 2 - 3 min/side
