Guitarists Extraordinaire: Joan Griffith and Sam Miltich, guest vocalist Connie Evingson

Saturday, January 28, 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, January 29, 2:00 p.m.

Black Box Theater

Guitarists
Sponsored by the Twin Cities Jazz Society, this unique pairing of "Guitarists Extraordinaire" for back to back performances will feature Brazilian styles of Samba, Bossa Nova, Choro and Baiao.  Included in the program will be standards from the Django Reinhardt and Cole Porter songbooks plus some original compositions.  Griffith will add authenticity to the sound by playing mandolin and the Brazilian cavaquinho.

The Black Box Theater setting at the Bloomington Center for the Arts brings the audience and performers close together for these special string sounds with voice that can't be enjoyed as much in a larger theater setting.  To be able to watch the players' fingers travel over the strings, to hear the voice of Dave Schmalenberger's percussion in the background from just a few feet away is a unique and wonderful experience.

Frankie Went to Hollywood
The music of Frank Sinatra stands as one of American popular music's most enduring songbooks. And the songs Sinatra sang in the movies between 1941 and 1964 were even more special. Arne Fogel and Maud Hixson team up once again, along with special guest vocalist Reeves Cary, to bring you a panorama of the songs from the days when "Frankie went to Hollywood."
